It happens to the best of us. Your hair starts out smooth and glorious in the morning, but then you step outside. Before you know it, you have a halo of frizz developing making your hair look puffy and dry. So what’s a girl to do? Read on to find out!
Moisture, moisture, moisture!
Frizz is caused when the cuticle of the hair lifts away, either because of damage, humidity, or both. Keeping your hair moisturized will prevent frizz from forming. In the shower, use a sulfate-free shampoo and a hydrating conditioner to make sure your strands stay nice and smooth. We love Kerastase Bain Magistral shampoo and Kerastase Fondant Magistral conditioner.
Skip a shampoo (or two)
Washing your hair every day can seriously dry it out, stripping hair of the natural oils. Try to go as long as possible between shampoos to make sure that your mane stays moisturized. Fine-haired girls should shampoo every other day, but those of us with curly hair can go every two days or longer. If your hair feels a little oily, spritz dry shampoo into the roots and massage in. Bumble and Bumble Prete a Powder is great for soaking up oil while adding texture and volume.
Fight frizz before it has a chance to form
After you step out of the shower, while your hair is still wet, smooth a hair oil over the surface of your hair to prevent flyaways and frizz. Bumble and Bumble’s Hairdressers Invisible Oil is a great option, and can be used for touch-ups throughout the day.
Back away from the towel
Towel-drying your hair roughs up the cuticle, so skip the towel and instead opt for a microfiber cloth like the Aquis Microfiber Hair Turban. The ultra fine fibers are gentle on your hair and soak up water more effectively, cutting down on your styling time.
Lay off the heat
Using heat on your hair too often can damage it, and damaged hair equals frizzy hair. Embrace your natural texture, or try out a new braid or bun to give your hair a break from your heat styling tools.
Air dry before heat styling
If you are going to blow dry your hair, let it air dry 90% of the way before you pull out your dryer. This saves your hair from some heat damage. No time to air dry in the morning? Sleep on damp strands, then heat style after you wake up.
Toss a product in your purse for touch-ups
If your hair gets frizzy mid-day, use a little hand lotion or a products like Bumble and Bumble Brilliantine to smooth down any fuzzy bits.
